How Big Do Cavapoos Get? Size & Weight Guide

"How big will my Cavapoo get?" is one of the first questions every prospective owner asks — and the honest answer is: it depends mostly on the Poodle parent. Here's how to work it out.

Typical adult size and weight

A fully-grown Cavapoo usually weighs between 5 and 9 kilograms (around 11–20 lb) and stands roughly 25–35 cm at the shoulder. That puts them firmly in small-dog territory — big enough to be robust family dogs, small enough to be flat-friendly and easy to travel with.

There's real variation, though, because a Cavapoo isn't a standardised breed. Individual dogs can fall outside these ranges, especially in first-generation litters.

What determines a Cavapoo's size

The single biggest factor is which Poodle was used:

  • Toy Poodle cross: the smaller end — often 4–7 kg.
  • Miniature Poodle cross: the larger end — often 6–9 kg or a little more.

The Cavalier parent is fairly consistent in size, so it's the Poodle side that pushes a litter smaller or larger. Generation matters too: F1 litters (see our generations guide) tend to vary more than later ones.

Growth timeline

Cavapoos grow quickly in their first few months and reach most of their adult height by around 10–12 months, then fill out and gain a little more weight until roughly 12–14 months. Their growth plates close around a year old, which is why you should protect their joints with age-appropriate exercise until then — the numbers are in our exercise guide.

How to predict your puppy's adult size

The most reliable predictor is simple: meet both parents, and ask the breeder about the size of previous litters. A rough rule of thumb for small breeds is that adult weight often lands around double the puppy's weight at four months — but treat that as a ballpark, not a guarantee. If size really matters to you, an F1b or later-generation litter from parents of known size gives you more predictability than a first-generation cross.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a full-grown Cavapoo weigh?
Most adult Cavapoos weigh between 5 and 9 kg (about 11–20 lb). Toy-Poodle crosses tend to be lighter and Miniature-Poodle crosses heavier. Individual dogs can fall outside this range.
At what age is a Cavapoo fully grown?
They reach most of their adult height by 10–12 months and finish filling out in weight by around 12–14 months. Their growth plates close near the one-year mark.
What's the difference between a toy and miniature Cavapoo?
It refers to the Poodle parent. A Toy-Poodle-cross Cavapoo is smaller (often 4–7 kg), while a Miniature-Poodle-cross is larger (often 6–9 kg+). Both are still small dogs.
