Puppy weight calculator

Enter your puppy's age and weight to estimate how big they'll be fully grown. It covers doodles, Cavapoos and other designer breeds, or any small, medium or large dog.

Estimated adult weight

An estimate from typical growth curves for the size of dog, not a guarantee. Parents' weights are the best real-world predictor, and your vet can tell you if your puppy is growing on track.

How the estimate works

Puppies grow fastest in their first few months and then slow down, and small dogs finish growing much sooner than big ones. A small breed is usually close to adult weight at around 10 to 12 months. Medium dogs take around 12 to 15 months, and large doodles can keep filling out until 18 months or so.

The calculator takes your puppy's age, works out roughly what share of adult weight a dog of that size has usually reached by then, and scales up from today's weight. It then checks the answer against the typical adult range for the breed and size you picked.

Why mixed breeds are harder to predict

Doodles and other crosses vary more than purebreds, because a litter can take after either parent. A "mini" from two very different-sized parents might land anywhere in the range. If your estimate sits outside the typical range for the breed, ask your breeder what earlier litters from the same parents weighed as adults.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a puppy weight calculator?
It gives a reasonable estimate, usually within 10 to 15 percent for a typical puppy, but mixed breeds vary more than purebreds. The parents' adult weights are the best predictor, so use both together.
At what age is a puppy half its adult weight?
Small breeds are often around half their adult weight at 14 to 16 weeks. Medium dogs get there at around 20 to 22 weeks, and large breeds at around 24 weeks.
When do doodles stop growing?
Mini and toy doodles usually finish growing at around 10 to 12 months. Standard Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles can keep filling out until 15 to 18 months or so.
Do paw size and puppy weight predict adult size?
Big paws can hint at a bigger dog, but they're unreliable. Current weight at a known age, plus the parents' sizes, is a much better guide.
